With poise and elegance the first female president of the National Association of Nigerian Students Ghana (NANS GHANA) Hamida Ibrahim accepted the responsibility to lead as she was sworn into office at Knutsford University College East Legon, Accra Ghana during Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary Celebration and Inauguration of NANS-Ghana Exco 20/21 organized by the students body.
Hamida declared her intention for the position few moths to the election and worked vigorously to change the narrative prevalent in the association that men has dominated its leadership for about a decade now, what she has done is to create a new chapter in the history of the body and to send a subliminal message to other young girls that nothing is impossible.
She is very brave for challenging the patriarchal system that is prevalent in Africa face on, because leadership is always not considered to be responsibility of women, especially when a man has interest in the same seat but she has broken that glass ceiling at a first try in NANS Ghana.
The Nursing student of Wisconsin International University College, Ghana from Kaduna State in Nigeria won the election that took place during the 𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗦-𝗚𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗔 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗨𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 on the 26th of September 2020 held at the premises of Accra Institute of Technology Ghana.
Hamida took to social media to announce her victory as she was elected the ever first Female NANS President Ghana chapter.
“𝗔𝗹-𝗵̣𝗮𝗺𝗱𝘂 𝗹-𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮̄𝗵𝗶 𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗯𝗶 𝗹-ʿ𝗮̄𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗶̄𝗻 I have been ELECTED as the new President of National Association of Nigerian Students -Ghana Chapter , as a matter of fact – the first female student to lead this great union. Let me use this opportunity to salute the courage and determination of my co-contestant Comrade OYEBOLA Carl Principle, you can be rest assured, that you will be fully carried along in this administration. I congratulate you too. WE ARE ALL WINNERS.
I can’t thank you all enough for the MASSIVE encouragements, overwhelming supports across board. It is amazing and I promise – insha Allah, I won’t take it for granted. Together, as a team…the newly elected Executive Council members will not disappoint the teeming Nigerian students in Ghana. I will rally everybody together in unison and in unity, we make NANS-Ghana Chapter great and strong. Aluta Continua
Expectations are high on the ability of Hamida to make a difference as she is the first woman to lead the body in Ghana, but counting on her dedication and commitment to student unionism as she is a former Women Commissioner – NSA Wisconsin University before attaining her new feat, there is wholesome confidence in her to lead National Association of Nigerian students Ghana to new heights.
