The #EndSARS protest in Nigeria has taken a new dimension as technocrats and corporate executives has left the comfort of their plush offices, ignoring their busy schedule to stand in the sun in solidarity with the youths as they call for total overhauling of the Nigerian Police System.
Over the weekend celebrities like Omotola Jalade, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy among others were noted and pictures circulating in social media from the protest grounds have recorded participation of people that are supposedly identified to be Chima Anyanso Managing Director of Ceecon Energy and Osita Oparaugo esq, the C.E.O of Red Dot Television owners of Ogelle, one of Africa’s leading content curators.
The presence of these innovative and dynamic individuals is helping in building the crescendo and echoes from the protest ground, as their participation is amplifying the depth of the pains in the spirit of the younger generation over what they’ve suffered at the hands of Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Nigerian Police that went rogue and are being accused of extra judicial killings and excessive abuse of rights of the people.
The youths seeing themselves sharing same ground, belief and opinion with people like Osita Oparaugo has been inspiring to them , because he has been exemplary with his support to their dreams by creating Ogelle, a unique platform that presents an opportunity for anyone to become a creative entrepreneur and easily make a living at the same time without much hassles ,as even videos shot with android phones are eligible to earn one income with the right views on the platform.
The peaceful process that reportedly started on 10th of October has overwhelmed the authorities, as they have consistently been heeding to the demands and taking decisions to appease the teeming youths whose population has continuously increased.
Governors of some States in Nigeria have also affirmed their solidarity to the protesters as well, by visiting the protest grounds in their State to engage the youths and letting them know that their concern is being attended to.
Few of them who have been to protest grounds in their states are Governor Ugwuanyi of Ebonyi State, Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Sanwo Olu of Lagos State as well, are among those that has left their executive duties to engage the protesters in the field.
This peaceful uprising in Nigeria, is seemingly the first of its kind in the recent times because of the wide acceptance and attention it has drawn to the nation, regardless that many Nigerians has always protested peacefully to draw attention to uncanny situations in the nation occasionally.
The surprising element in the #EndSARS Now campaign is that there wasn’t much premeditated plans for it , unlike the Revolution Now initiated by Sowore the founder of Sahara Reporters media portal, which was pre announced in the media and was scuttled by members of the police and led to Sowore spending months in DSS Cell after he was arrested, granted bail and rearrested again in court , sparking a wide outcry in the nation over concern of his plight at the hands of the security operatives.
The #EndSARS protest that seemingly started in Lagos State has gone nation-wide, as youths in other cities and states in the nation are joining the movement, from the Southwest to the east and Northern part of the nation and there seems no end in sight to the protest anytime soon, as new dates and location for gathering for the protest keeps popping up on social media platforms.
