How to secure your phone from hackers and how to stop them

One of the worst things that could happen in the technological age that we are in is for your phone to be hacked, as the perpetrators would be able to access information about you and be able to see your text messages and much more.

Therefore, making sure your phone is secure from hackers is key in order to be able to breathe a little easier.

How to secure your phone from hackers

There are some key measures that you can take in order protect yourself from anyone trying to hack your phone, and a large portion of these simply involve common sense.

Making sure to never leave your phone unattended in a public place is vital, as their job is made far harder if you have your phone on you.

Some of us opt for an easy passcode in order to get quick access to our phones, but if this applies to you, maybe think about having a more difficult code. The typical ‘1234’, ‘0000’ and ‘2580’ are typically the first passcodes that a hacker will attempt.

Be careful with your Bluetooth settings too, as if you have your Bluetooth on you are viewed as being vulnerable. The easy tip for this is to turn it off when you are not using it.

It is quite common for people to have a page on their phone – typically in their Notes – where you keep a record of your passwords and maybe even your card details, so if this applies to you, make sure you put a lock on the page. On an iPhone, you can do this by holding down on the note once you are on the opening page and selecting ‘Lock Note’.

How to stop hackers from accessing your phone

It is a good idea to try and avoid unsecure public WiFi options as you have no idea who you might be giving access to your phone, particularly if it has a strange name.

Another tip is to delete your browsing history, cookies and cache on your internet, as this will remove your virtual footprint.

Finally, it might be worth downloading a security app – for the better ones you will have to pay – in order to get an extra few layers of protection.
