Next in Line? Wizkid Bags 2 Grammy Nominations


Wizkid has recorded nothing but hits and wins this year, and he shows no sign of slowing down as he adds another Grammy nomination to his stash. 

NET Honours 2021: Wizkid wins most popular musician award

Recording Academy announced nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards, and Nigerian singer and one-time Grammy winner, Wizkid, breaks records again. A nomination in the Best Global Music Album Category for “Made in Lagos” and Best Global Music Performance for “Essence” brings his total Grammy nominations to four, making him the second most nominated Nigerian artist in Grammy history. 

Wizkid’s career has been on a remarkable ascent since the artist first went mainstream. Fans have come to expect nothing but the best from him, and he delivers every time. 

Within this year he has received several awards including the  Net Honours Award for Most Popular Musician Male Category and Most Played Song R&B Category. And his most recent win at the AFRIMMA awards where he carted away with three awards for Best African Collaboration, Song Of The Year and Artist Of The Year. He also won the Best African Act at the MTV EMA Awards.

Before the Grammy 2022 nominees were announced, any wizkid fan paying attention to the artist undoubtedly expected the star to make one Grammy category or two.

The global sensation that is ‘Essence’ and how the song took the world by storm is proof that Wizkid’s nominations are well deserved.

Through this nomination, Wizkid also delivers Tems her first-ever Grammy nomination for her collaboration on “Essence.”

Wizkid marks the end of 2021 with a cherry on top of the cake he’s been serving all year to the delight of fans and the Nigerian music industry at large.

Wizkid FC, as his fans are named, are more than thrilled, as many trooped to social media to celebrate his nominations and pray he brings home a win.
