The people of Añara in Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State, has called for the urgent assistance of the Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma, urging him to intervene on the challenging situation of flood that is challenging the community out of the new road construction that is ongoing in the area.
The community stakeholders wrote an open letter to the Governor , expressing their concerns about the negative impact of the construction of the Owerri-Okigwe Road on their community, urging him to haste to their rescue as floods resulting from the road construction is causing untold harm and damages to their livelihood ,disrupting their economic activities as well as denying them peace of mind, and also commended him for the infrastructural development of their community which the road project is piloting.
The letter signed by the President of the Concerned Citizens of Añara, Hon. Iyke Don Añumaka, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Hon Ajaero Tony Martins Ifeanyichukwu, the Chief Scribe, Comr. Chijioke Iwuamadi, and the Media and Publicity Director, Comr. Nnadi Ifeanyichukwu (Mayor) pointed out the dire situation in their community due to the flooding caused by the road construction.
The letter highlights that there is no flood control tunnel in Añara to collect the flood coming from Owerri Road, leading to worrisome erosion at the Añara Park. Añara is a community that heavily relies on the income generated from the affected areas, but the floods have made it impossible for the residents and business owners to make ends meet.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Road Maintenance Agency while receiving the community leaders appealed to his kinsmen to be patient, that these challenges are just for a while and should be seen as a necessary challenge to be endured for the greater good, as the road when finally completed will as well impact massively on the economic activities of Añara.
“I acknowledge receipt of your open letter to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, regarding the issue of flooding in Añara and the need for a flood control tunnel to be constructed in the area. I also appreciate your efforts in towing the path of peace and bringing this matter to our attention and I assure you that the concerns of the citizens of Añara will be taken serious as everybody counts in the 3R administration” Hon.Ikenna Chukwuocha (Whitelion) said.
“I will officially embark on a fact finding mission to office of Cranburg Construction Company in Okigwe to ascertain the reality of the situation and hear from the company on their plans to stem the tide of the flood, so that I will have a comprehensive report on the matter to submit to the governor” Hon . Chukwuocha ( Whitelion) promised.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that the necessary action is taken to alleviate the sufferings of the residents and business owners in Añara in the shortest time possible ” Hon.Chukwuocha (Whitelion) the two time Federal House of Rep seat contestant and Industrialist of high repute assured the people.
