In a substantial political shift in Imo state, leading members from five significant parties – All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) – have announced their defection to the Action Alliance (AA). This comes with an endorsement of Humphrey Ukadike, the parallel flagbearer of AA, as their candidate for the gubernatorial race.
The defectors, led by Chief Nnamdi Ozorh, Managing Director of Atlantic Affairs, acted as representatives of their respective parties and confirmed the dismantling of their party structures in various rural communities. These actions are now aligned with The Truth Campaign Organisation, the political vehicle backing Ukadike’s governorship bid.
Ozorh, speaking on behalf of the party delegates, disclosed the thorough research process that led to this pivotal decision. According to him, the outcome of their evaluation affirmed Ukadike’s superiority over other candidates. His wide-ranging experience as a proficient technocrat, influential power player, and a skilled developer of human capacity positioned him as the prime choice to lead Imo.
The defectors believe in Ukadike’s ability to address key issues troubling the state. One such issue is the recurring ‘Sit at Home’ problem that has been causing considerable economic disruption in Imo State. Another prominent concern is the wave of insecurity that has significantly impeded the region’s progress. The delegates are confident that Ukadike, with his vast managerial acumen, can resolve these issues effectively.
Recognising the necessity for a gubernatorial candidate capable of tackling these issues, the defectors noted that Ukadike has already initiated consultations with stakeholders to find resolutions to these long-standing problems. This proactive approach, even without holding the governor’s office, demonstrates his commitment to Imo’s well being.
Questions were raised during the meeting about the authenticity of Ukadike’s candidature given recent controversies. In response, Ukadike reassured the delegation of his legitimate status as the AA candidate. He referred to an incident a few weeks ago where Kenneth Udeze, the contested chairman of AA, was ousted from a meeting of INEC Political Parties Chairmen. In contrast, Ukadike’s representation of AA was officially recognised, bolstering his claim to the AA candidacy.
Ukadike expressed gratitude for the delegation’s support and urged them to continue promoting his campaign. He committed that, if elected on November 11, his mandate will focus on elevating Imo from its current predicaments. This landmark political realignment in Imo, with a fusion of forces from various parties, reflects a shared belief in Ukadike’s capacity to lead and foster change.
