Police dismiss two Inspectors for armed robbery and unlawful duty.

Two police inspectors have been fired from their jobs after they were caught in a robbery operation with some vigilantes and a driver in Ogun State.

The inspectors, Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen, were attached to the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Lagos. They were dismissed by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Mohammed Ali, after an Orderly Room trial.

The Police officers, who were also joined by Semiu Afisu and Abidoye Femi from a vigilante group and Charles John, a driver, stormed a residence in Obada- Oko community on November 23, 2023, around 10 pm. They had two Submachine SMG rifles and live ammunition with them.

They searched the apartment of Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola Sunday without a warrant and made away with five iPhones, one Samsung smartphone, one Tecno smartphone and two laptop computers.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, said that the robbers were arrested by police officers from Ifo Division, who set up a roadblock after receiving a tip-off from other residents. However, ASP Ajayi Victor, who led the robbery operation, escaped and is still on the run.

The AIG has ordered that the sacked inspectors and their accomplices be prosecuted in court. He also warned all police officers to uphold the law and professionalism in their duties or face the consequences of their actions.
