AFROMONDO SHOWCASE: A Night of African Music at SOB’s

If you are looking for a way to spice up your Thursday night, look no further than SOB’s, the legendary venue for live music in New York City. On January 11th, 2024, SOB’s will host the AFROMONDO SHOWCASE, a musical extravaganza featuring some of the best African artists in the scene.

 

The AFROMONDO SHOWCASE is a series of events that celebrate the diversity and richness of African music and culture. The 6th edition of the showcase will feature Nkumu Katalay & The “Life Long Project” Band, a group of talented musicians from Kinshasa, Congo, who are based in New York City. Nkumu Katalay is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and activist who blends traditional Congolese music with modern genres such as funk, soul, and hip hop. His band, The “Life Long Project”, consists of guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists, and horn players who create a vibrant and energetic sound that will make you want to move your feet.

 

Nkumu Katalay & The “Life Long Project” Band will perform songs from their latest album, Rumbianfunk, which showcases their unique style of music that they call “The Rumba within my Funk”. The album features songs that explore themes such as love, identity, social justice, and spirituality. The band will also play some of their popular hits, such as “Biso Tokende”, “Mama Africa”, and “Kinshasa Makambo”.

 

But that’s not all. The AFROMONDO SHOWCASE will also feature other amazing African artists, such as:

 

– DJ Nenim, a Nigerian-born DJ who mixes Afrobeat, highlife, funk, and soul music with a touch of vinyl.

– M’Balia Singley, a singer and songwriter from Philadelphia who fuses Afro-soul, jazz, and R&B with her powerful voice and poetic lyrics.

– Mannywellz, a Nigerian-American artist who blends Afro-fusion, hip hop, and soul music with his smooth vocals and catchy hooks.

-Saran Kaba Jones, a Liberian-American activist and founder of FACE Africa, a non-profit organization that provides clean water and sanitation to rural communities in Africa.

 

 

The event will take place at SOB’s, located at 204 Varick Street, NY, on Thursday, January 11th, 2024. The doors will open at 7 pm, and the show will start at 8 pm sharp.
