By Grace Chigbu
The Imo State Police Command has taken decisive action in response to the recent attack on the Correctional Service Farm Settlement in Umualomoke, Okigwe Local Government Area. In the wake of the assault, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, the State Police Command has deployed a Special Tactical Squad to track down the perpetrators responsible for this brazen act of violence.
According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the assailants launched a coordinated attack on both the farm settlement and the residence of Sen. Patrick Ndubeze. The attackers, believed to be hoodlums, forcibly released seven inmates and abducted a correctional officer who was in charge of the settlement. Tragically, a Police Inspector lost his life during the assault, highlighting the severity of the situation.
In response to this egregious act, the Commissioner of Police for Imo State, Mr Aboki Danjuma, swiftly mobilized a Special Tactical Squad to pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Commissioner Danjuma, upon deploying the squad, personally visited the scenes of the crime to conduct on-the-spot assessments of the incidents.
“The CP mandated the special squad operatives to intensify efforts in ensuring that the officer-in-charge of the farm settlement is rescued unhurt and the fleeing inmates arrested,” stated ASP Henry Okoye.
The deployment of the Special Tactical Squad underscores the Imo State Police Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, as well as ensuring the safety and security of residents. The swift and decisive action taken by law enforcement authorities sends a clear message that acts of violence and criminality will not be tolerated in the state.
ASP Okoye further emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public in apprehending the perpetrators. He urged anyone with useful information regarding the attack or the whereabouts of the assailants to come forward and assist law enforcement officials. This collaborative effort between the police and the community is essential in bringing those responsible to justice and preventing similar incidents in the future.
As investigations into the attack continue, the Imo State Police Command remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice for the victims and their families. The deployment of the Special Tactical Squad represents a proactive measure to apprehend the perpetrators swiftly and restore peace and security to the affected area.
