EFCC Arrests 26 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Abuja

The Economic Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of 26 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud in various areas of Abuja. According to the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made in Kurudu, Jahi, Kubwa, and Gwarimpa.

 

The operation was conducted following credible information regarding the alleged internet-related activities of the suspects. Among the items seized during the arrests were luxury vehicles, including a Toyota Tacoma, a CLS Mercedes 450, and three Lexus cars. Additionally, authorities confiscated 40 mobile phones and seven laptops believed to be used in furtherance of their illicit activities.

 

Speaking on the matter, Oyewale stated, “They will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.”

 

Internet fraud, commonly known as “yahoo-yahoo” in Nigeria, has been a persistent challenge, with perpetrators employing various tactics to defraud unsuspecting victims. Law enforcement agencies like the EFCC have intensified efforts to combat cybercrime, conducting raids and arrests to curb the proliferation of online scams.

 

The EFCC continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. The commission also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community in combating cybercrime and ensuring a safer online environment for all citizens.

 

The suspects are expected to face prosecution in accordance with the law once the investigation is completed.
