By Grace Chigbu

The Police Command in Kaduna State has once again demonstrated its commitment to combating criminal activities, as its operatives successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with operational motorcycles belonging to suspected kidnappers.

Confirming the incident, the command’s Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Audu Ali, reiterated the state’s unwavering stance against criminal elements. The recovery of the firearm and the foiling of the kidnapping attempt underscored the police force’s dedication to maintaining law and order in the state.

The encounter occurred at approximately 0730 hours on February 15th, when a group of bandits blocked the Tumburku – Galadimawa road in Giwa Local Government area. The bandits, armed and intent on kidnapping motorists, resorted to indiscriminate shooting, posing a grave threat to public safety.

In response to the alarming situation, a detachment of the Operation Whirl Punch swiftly intervened, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle. The superior tactics employed by the operatives forced the bandits to retreat into the nearby bush, with many sustaining bullet wounds in the process.

Following the exchange of fire, the operatives conducted a thorough search of the area and recovered significant items from the scene. Among the items seized were an AK47 rifle, three AK47 magazines, five rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition, a Techno mobile phone, and two Bajaj motorcycles believed to be used by the perpetrators.

With order restored in the affected area, intensified patrols have been initiated to deter any further criminal activities. The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals, particularly those exhibiting gunshot injuries, to the nearest Police station.

The Commissioner of Police commended the bravery and swift action of the men of Operation Whirl Punch, emphasizing the need to escalate efforts in the ongoing fight against banditry in the state. Additionally, the public was encouraged to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely and relevant information to ensure the safety of all road users.

This latest operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the Kaduna State Police Command to maintaining peace and security within the state. By foiling the kidnapping attempt and recovering dangerous weapons, law enforcement authorities have sent a clear message to criminal elements that their activities will not be tolerated, and they will be met with decisive action.
