National Grid Restoration Begins After Labor Unions Suspend Strike

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has started restoring the national grid to restore electricity supply, hours after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) suspended their indefinite strike.

The labor unions suspended the strike for one week following a renewed commitment from the federal government to address their demands, including the implementation of a new minimum wage.

The TCN confirmed that the nationwide blackout was caused by the labor unions’ planned strike, but stated that it has begun grid recovery efforts, starting with the Shiroro Hydropower Substation.

Despite the efforts, electricity distribution companies have yet to restore power supply to consumers.

The federal government and labor unions signed an agreement on Monday night, resolving the minimum wage controversy.

The development comes after the labor unions shut down the national grid on Monday, demanding a new minimum wage implementation.

The restoration of the national grid is expected to bring relief to millions of Nigerians affected by the blackout.
