Lagos Unveils Ikorodu Master Plan for Sustainable Future

In a significant move towards realizing its vision for a more organized and sustainable city, the Lagos State Government has officially launched the Ikorodu Sub-Region Master Plan (2016-2036). The comprehensive document outlines a strategic framework for guiding physical development in the area, focusing on key sectors such as land use, transportation, infrastructure, and environmental management.

The launch event, held at Ikorodu Town Hall, brought together stakeholders from various walks of life, including traditional rulers, government officials, and community leaders. Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, expressed his delight at the impressive turnout, underscoring the community’s commitment to the master plan’s success.

“The Ikorodu Sub-Region Master Plan represents a significant milestone in our journey towards achieving sustainable development in Lagos State,” Dr. Olumide remarked. “Its successful implementation will require the collective efforts of all stakeholders, and we are confident that together, we can create a more livable and sustainable environment for the benefit of all residents.”

The master plan, prepared with extensive public input, aims to create a more organized, livable, and sustainable environment in Ikorodu, aligning with the government’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda. The initiative prioritizes community engagement, ensuring that the needs and aspirations of residents are integrated into the development process.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Lagos, Mr. Oluwole Sotire, emphasized the plan’s potential to transform Ikorodu into a model for sustainable development, showcasing the government’s commitment to creating a 21st-century economy.

As Lagos continues to evolve, the Ikorodu Sub-Region Master Plan sets a precedent for strategic urban planning, demonstrating the government’s dedication to fostering a more sustainable and livable city for generations to come.
