US Politicians Urge Biden to Free Detained Binance Executive in Nigeria

A group of 12 US politicians has written to President Biden, urging him to facilitate the release of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive detained in Nigeria since February. Gambaryan, a US citizen, was arrested on charges of money laundering and tax evasion, which the politicians claim are baseless.

The letter, signed by members of Congress, including Rich McCormic and Michael McCaul, states that Gambaryan’s detention is wrongful and that his health is deteriorating. They claim that Nigerian authorities are treating him harshly, denying him access to his legal team and adequate medical care.

Gambaryan’s detention is linked to a spat between Binance and Nigerian authorities, who are cracking down on cryptocurrency trading. The politicians argue that Gambaryan’s arrest is a attempt to extort Binance and that he should be released immediately.

The case has sparked concerns about the treatment of foreign nationals in Nigeria and the use of harsh detention conditions. The US politicians are urging President Biden to take immediate action to secure Gambaryan’s release and ensure his safe return to the US.
