Lawmakers move to investigate the murder of a Nigerian Man in South Africa

The House of Representatives has taken steps to investigate the killing of Ebuka Nwoko, a 43-year-old Nigerian man who was murdered while in the custody of South African security officials. The incident has sparked outrage and concern over the safety of Nigerian citizens living in South Africa.

Hon. Tochukwu Chinedu Okere, who sponsored the motion, expressed concern over the systemic injustice and abuse faced by Nigerians in South Africa. He lamented that South Africa, once a beacon of hope and progress, has become a stark reminder of the systemic injustice and abuse faced by Nigerians abroad.

The House condemned the unlawful killings, torture, and inhumane treatment of Nigerian citizens living in South Africa and mandated its Committee on Diaspora to investigate the murder and other cases of unlawful killings and torture of Nigerians living in the Diaspora.

The House also urged the Federal Government to prioritize the protection of Nigerians living abroad and pursue justice for those who have suffered injustice and oppression. The motion was adopted following a minute of silence in honor of the late Ebuka Nwoko.

This move by the House of Representatives is a welcome development and a step in the right direction. It is hoped that the investigation will uncover the circumstances surrounding the murder and lead to justice being served. The House’s move to prioritize the protection of Nigerians living abroad is also a positive development and a testament to its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Nigerian citizens.
