Northern Group Backs IGP Egbetokun, Urges Tinubu to Ignore Calls for His Sack

The Northern Youth Association of Nigeria has thrown its weight behind the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to disregard calls for his sack. The group described the calls as “malicious, selfish, and self-centered.”

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, the group’s president, Comrade Godiya T Adams, commended the IGP for his efforts to bring the Nigerian Police to global reckoning. He noted that the IGP’s only “crime” was rejecting corrupt practices in the recruitment process, which had been perpetuated by “elements of retrogressive character.”

The group urged the IGP to remain focused on giving Nigerians the best police-citizen relationship and called on President Tinubu to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of misconduct and corruption in the recruitment process.

They stated that they would not sit back and watch a few selfish individuals destroy the renewed hope and progress Nigeria had made under President Tinubu’s leadership. The group passed a vote of confidence on the IGP and urged him to continue his good work.

In their statement, the group acknowledged the positives under the IGP’s stewardship and expressed their support for his efforts to bring the Nigerian Police to global reckoning. They also urged the President to investigate the allegations of corruption in the recruitment process and bring defaulters to book.
