Buhari May Back Atiku Abubakar in 2027 Election, Here’s Why

According to a report, there are indications that former President Muhammadu Buhari may support Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election. Atiku, who has been unsuccessful in his previous attempts at the presidency, recently visited Buhari in Daura, Katsina state. While the visit was said to be a courtesy call to congratulate Buhari on the successful celebration of the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir festivity, it is believed to have had political undertones.

Here are three reasons why Buhari may back Atiku in 2027:

1. Northern Alliance: Atiku’s visits to former Nigerian presidents from the north, including Buhari, are seen as a plot to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 poll. The north is considered the most powerful region in Nigeria, and Atiku’s moves are seen as an attempt to rally support from the region.

2. Tinubu’s Government Blame Game: The Tinubu administration has blamed Buhari for the current economic crisis in the country. This may not sit well with Buhari and his supporters, leading him to seek an alternative candidate to support in 2027.

3. Tinubu’s Lack of Confidence in Buhari’s Appointees: President Tinubu has fired all service chiefs appointed by Buhari and disengaged other influential principal officers who served under the Buhari administration. This move may have led to a rift between the two leaders, making it possible for Buhari to support Atiku in 2027.

It is important to note that this is speculation, and there is no confirmation yet from Buhari or Atiku on their plans for the 2027 election.
