The Action Peoples Party (APP) has declared its support for Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo as the legitimate speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. This comes after a recent court judgment led to the formation of parallel assemblies in the state.
The APP stated that the Oko-Jumbo-led assembly is the only constitutionally recognized lawmaking body in Rivers State, and the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers whose seats were declared vacant are no longer members of the assembly.
The party endorsed the assembly’s decision to screen a commissioner nominee and urged the Oko-Jumbo-led House to continue its legislative duties unhindered. The APP also advised the 27 ex-lawmakers to cease presenting themselves as state legislators.
This development comes as the Fubara-loyal assembly prepares to screen a commissioner nominee. The assembly clerk has invited the nominee to appear before the alternative assembly auditorium at the Rivers State Government House.
The APP’s stance is a significant development in the political crisis in Rivers State, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
