Peter Obi Denounces Allegations, Claims Presidency’s Plot to Silence His Advocacy

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate from last year’s election, has denied allegations from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, accusing him of orchestrating a protest against the country’s economic hardships.

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, described the accusations as an attempt to arrest him, restrict his freedom, and stifle his advocacy for good governance.

Tanko emphasized that Obi has always distanced himself from violence and has consistently focused on issue-driven advocacy, steering clear of personal attacks. He accused the presidency of deploying “attack dogs” to tarnish Obi’s image and divert attention from his positive message for Nigerians.

The statement further suggested that the presidency is attempting to scapegoat Obi for its own shortcomings, including the fuel subsidy crisis, rising poverty, inflation, nepotism, and unresolved historical conflicts.

“All the problems real and imagined created by their insensitivity and lavish lifestyle they have curiously tried to link to Obi. Notable challenges of the administration which are a consequence of their actions and inactions like fuel subsidy fallouts, growing poverty in the land, inflation, nepotism and unresolved historical conflicts among others they blame all on Obi,” Tanko said.

Tanko called on Nigerians to dismiss the presidency’s “cheap blackmail” and reassured that Obi and his supporters remain steadfast in their pursuit of a better Nigeria.
