Rema to Perform in Hometown Concert

Benin City, July 27, 2024 – Popular singer Rema has announced that he will be performing in his hometown of Benin on August 30. The concert will take place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

This announcement follows an earlier plan by Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki to host Rema for a homecoming event last December. However, Rema had to cancel all his shows in December 2023 due to health issues.

“It breaks my heart to say that I won’t be performing anywhere this December,” Rema shared at the time. “It has been years of touring, I have ignored my health and I need time to recuperate. 2024 we go again, love.”

Rema’s announcement comes shortly after the release of his second album, ‘Heis’. The album has already broken records, achieving the highest number of first-week streams on Spotify Nigeria in 2024, with 12.3 million streams according to Turntable Charts.

Rema, born Divine Ikubor, signed with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in 2019. Since then, he has risen to prominence in the African music industry. He won ‘Best Male Artiste’ and ‘Digital Artiste of the Year’ at the 16th Headies. In December 2023, Spotify also recognized him as one of the most exported artistes who dominated the charts in sub-Saharan Africa.
