The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has urged medical personnel to report any gunshot wound victims to the police. The request follows a recent incident where hoodlums used the ongoing hunger protests as cover for extensive robbery and assault along the Lugbe area of Abuja.
In a statement released on Friday, Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh detailed that these hoodlums had engaged in a shootout with police officers after blocking the Shehu Musa Yaradua Expressway on August 1, 2024. The violence led to several injuries among the criminals, who then sought medical attention.
Adeh emphasized that under the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017, medical facilities must report such cases to local police for further investigation. This measure aims to prevent criminals from escaping justice under the guise of medical emergencies.
FCT Commissioner of Police Bennett Igweh condemned the misuse of the protests for criminal activities, warning that security forces are on high alert to address any further violence. The police also reassured residents that efforts are underway to safeguard their rights and property during the protests.
For further updates, residents are encouraged to stay informed through local news and official police channels.
