The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has announced the appointment of Kayode Pitan as the new pastor of the City of David Parish in Lagos, succeeding Idowu Iluyomade. This decision was made by the church’s governing council during the recent annual convention.
The appointment marks the end of Iluyomade’s tenure at the parish. This change in leadership follows public criticism over the extravagant 60th birthday celebration for Iluyomade’s wife, Siju Iluyomade. The event, which featured performances by renowned Nigerian artist Flavour N’abania, drew backlash due to its timing and the involvement of a secular musician.
In response to the controversy, the RCCG Governing Council suspended Iluyomade for three months in June 2024 and appointed Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish as the interim pastor.
Pastor Kayode Pitan, previously the Pastor in Charge of the Tabernacle of David in Region 51 and a Regional Pastor, will now take over from Kpandei.
