Abuja, August 17, 2024*— The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPC) has dismissed claims that it is selling employment slots to job seekers. The state-owned oil firm issued a statement on Saturday, signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, categorically denying the rumors and warning the public to be wary of fraudsters.
NNPC clarified that the rumors are baseless and are part of schemes by criminals to exploit unsuspecting job seekers. The company emphasized that recruitment into NNPC is conducted transparently and does not involve any payment or inducement.
“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPC Ltd.) has called on members of the public, especially jobseekers, to disregard rumors of employment slots for sale,” the statement read. “There is no iota of truth in the insinuations that the company offers employment slots to anyone who wishes to buy.”
The company further urged Nigerians not to fall victim to such fraudulent activities, stressing that anyone who pays money in the hope of securing a job at NNPC does so at their own risk.
NNPC also reaffirmed its commitment to ethical recruitment practices, reassuring the public that any genuine employment opportunities will be communicated through official channels.
The statement comes amid growing concerns over job scams in Nigeria, where fraudsters often prey on the desperation of job seekers by promising them employment in exchange for money. NNPC’s warning serves as a reminder to the public to remain vigilant and avoid being duped by such schemes.
