CEMT: Empowering Black Farmers to Build Generational Wealth Through Agriculture

The Cooperative Executive Management Team (CEMT) is at the forefront of transforming the agricultural landscape for Black farmers, focusing on building generational wealth through strategic initiatives. Founded in 2019 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, CEMT was created in response to the success of previous ventures in the cannabis and hemp sectors, following the 2018 Federal Farm Bill that legalized industrial hemp.

CEMT was established to address the need for Black farmers to effectively monetize their family land, particularly with the introduction of new cash crops like hemp. A pivotal trip to Africa in 2019 expanded the organization’s vision, highlighting the continent’s potential as a key player in global agriculture. Africa, home to the majority of Black farmers, has the world’s youngest and fastest-growing consumer base, making it an ideal location for rapid business growth.

CEMT provides a range of services aimed at helping Black farmers in the United States and Africa connect to the global agriculture market. These services include land utilization, where CEMT offers drone footage for site analysis and tailored land management plans. Recognizing the economic potential of the global cannabis and hemp market, projected to reach $2 trillion by 2030, CEMT partners with the AIE Project to offer specialized training and global network opportunities. Their Cannabis and Hemp Specialist Certification (CHSC) is available both online and in-person in Ghana, providing farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this growing industry.

CEMT is also leading efforts to establish a Cannabis Land Bank in Ghana, providing education, training, and partnership opportunities for those interested in entering this lucrative market. Education is a cornerstone of CEMT’s mission, with comprehensive training programs that focus on business development, technology adoption, and skills training for future agripreneurs. These programs cover a wide range of agricultural practices, from vegetable and livestock farming to organic farming.

In partnership with Krafo Systems, a company founded by former U.S. military IT and security specialists, CEMT offers advanced land management and digital security services in Ghana. Krafo Systems provides drone footage, security assessments, and the installation of advanced security systems for various agricultural projects, ensuring the safety and productivity of farming ventures.

CEMT invites farmers and entrepreneurs to join their growing community and take advantage of the resources and opportunities they offer. Whether through training, land management services, or participation in the Ghana Cannabis Land Bank Registry, CEMT is dedicated to helping Black farmers build wealth and create sustainable futures for their families.

In addition to these initiatives, CEMT is preparing to release a new book series titled “Re-Branding the Black Farmer,” authored by CEMT President H.E. Davisha L. Johnson. Set to be available on August 15, 2024, the series aims to shift the narrative around farming in Black communities, emphasizing its role in community building, revenue generation, and long-term prosperity.

CEMT’s comprehensive approach to empowering Black farmers blends education, practical services, and a vision for global impact. As they continue to expand their initiatives, CEMT remains a crucial player in the quest to build generational wealth and reimagine the future of Black farming.
