EFCC Declares Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello a Fugitive

**‘Yahaya Bello, A Fug

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello a fugitive, demanding his immediate arrest. Bello faces serious charges including money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of N80.2 billion from his tenure as governor.

EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale announced the commission’s stance during an interview with News Central TV on Thursday. He revealed that multiple attempts to apprehend Bello have failed, and the commission currently does not know his whereabouts.

On August 20, 2024, the Court of Appeal in Abuja instructed Bello to appear for arraignment on the EFCC’s corruption charges. Oyewale emphasized that the court’s decision reinforces the EFCC’s commitment to pursuing the case.

“We are working with both local and international law enforcement agencies to ensure his arrest,” Oyewale stated. “As of now, Yahaya Bello remains elusive. He is now a fugitive, and we are prepared to use all legal means to apprehend him.”

Oyewale also addressed delays in some EFCC cases, attributing them to procedural matters and the commission’s adherence to legal protocols.
