Tinubu-Led Presidency Spends N250 Million on Event Decorations

The Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, has come under scrutiny for spending N250 million on decorations for various state events, including those associated with the First Lady’s programs. The payments, made between March 15 and July 15, 2024, were all directed to a single organization, Rock of Ages Total Events.

A review of government spending records reveals that on July 15, 2024, N68.4 million was paid for decorating the State House for Democracy Day. This sum was one of five significant payments made over a span of just a few days.

Earlier, on July 5, 2024, the government spent N19.9 million on decorating a 300-seater hall at the Sheraton Hotel. A larger payment of N131.9 million was made on May 24, 2024, for “full-scale decoration for State House events” tied to First Lady programs focused on women, youth, and children.

On May 17, 2024, N22.5 million was paid for decorating the State House’s new banquet hall, providing fresh flowers in the Commander in Chief’s office, and covering a three-day event. The earliest recorded payment was on March 15, 2024, when N7.5 million was spent on decorating the State House banquet hall.

These expenditures have raised concerns about the government’s fiscal responsibility, with many calling for greater prudence and accountability in managing Nigeria’s limited resources.
