September 21, 2024 – Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), made a notable appearance at Polling Unit 22, Ward 12, in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State during the governorship election on Saturday.
General Ahmed’s visit aimed to boost the morale of corps members deployed to assist the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the election. This visit followed his meeting with the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Benin City, where he discussed safety measures for corps members participating in the polls.
In a video from the polling unit, General Ahmed engaged with the corps members, who responded, “no wahala,” indicating that there were no issues at that moment.
The NYSC has prioritized the safety and welfare of its personnel, with General Ahmed noting that “2,550 trained corps members will serve as electoral officers across 18 local government areas.” He emphasized the need for heightened security to ensure their protection during the election process.
This advocacy for corps member safety highlights the NYSC’s commitment to supporting young Nigerians as they engage in democratic processes. As the election unfolds, the involvement of these corps members is crucial for ensuring a smooth and fair electoral exercise.
