Donald Trump Outlines Plans as He Prepares for Second Term as President**

Donald Trump, recently declared the winner of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, has made ambitious promises for his second term. After a close race against Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump delivered a victory speech that framed his win as a “new chapter” for the United States, pledging unity and major policy shifts across immigration, the economy, and foreign relations.

Immigration Reform and Border Security

Trump’s immigration stance remains uncompromising. He announced his commitment to restart the construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall, a central feature of his first term that had been left unfinished when he lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden. To strengthen his control over immigration, Trump has suggested using the Insurrection Act, allowing military involvement at the border.

Additionally, he plans what he calls the “largest deportation program in history,” potentially affecting millions of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. Though details on funding such a massive undertaking are scarce, estimates from the American Immigration Council suggest that deporting 11 million undocumented individuals could cost nearly $1 trillion. Trump has also revived talk of a “Muslim travel ban,” intending to restrict travel from predominantly Muslim countries.

Stance on Women’s Rights

Despite his strong anti-abortion stance and appointment of Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, Trump has indicated he will not pursue a federal abortion ban. Instead, he aims to promote state-level decisions on abortion laws. In a surprising addition to his platform, Trump proposed providing free IVF treatment for women struggling with infertility, a move that could resonate with many Americans.

Foreign Policy Adjustments

Trump has been vocal about his views on international conflicts. With the U.S. heavily involved in supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression, Trump has promised a reassessment, suggesting he will seek an end to the conflict, although specifics remain unclear. He has also expressed concerns over U.S. aid to Israel amid rising Middle Eastern tensions. In a controversial move, he threatened to revoke visas for foreign students who participate in pro-Palestinian protests, calling into question the balance between free speech and foreign policy.

Economic Strategy and Environmental Policy

Addressing economic issues, Trump pledged to “end inflation” and reduce living costs for Americans. He proposed expanding the U.S. oil industry to lower energy prices and decrease dependency on foreign imports. Trump’s focus on domestic oil production contrasts with Biden’s push for renewable energy; Trump intends to limit offshore wind farms, controversially suggesting they harm marine life.

On taxes, Trump plans a mix of tariff hikes and tax cuts. He advocates for higher import taxes, especially on goods from countries like China and Mexico, to protect American industries. However, this approach may lead to price increases on imported products, impacting American consumers. Despite describing climate change as a “hoax,” Trump stated his administration would focus on clean air and water initiatives, leaving environmentalists skeptical about his commitment.

As Trump prepares to reenter the Oval Office in January 2025, his plans signal a return to many of the policies from his previous term, emphasizing a strong stance on immigration, economic nationalism, and an “America First” foreign policy. His approach has drawn both support and criticism, with some Americans hopeful for economic relief and others concerned about the implications for social and environmental policies.

With his inauguration a few months away, the country awaits to see how Trump’s promises will shape the next four years.
