Ghana Reconstructs Demolished Nigerian Property in Accra

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the reconstruction of Nigeria’s High Commission property in Accra, Ghana, following its demolition by Ghanaian authorities. The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the acting spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

The four-bedroom block, which was destroyed in a 2020 incident that strained diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Ghana, has now been fully rebuilt and handed over. This follows a series of high-level discussions between the two nations to resolve the dispute amicably.

Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, officially handed over the property’s keys on behalf of the Ghanaian government. Ambassador Chimezie Ogu, Director of the Foreign Service Academy, Lagos, received the keys on behalf of the Nigerian government.

In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for Ghana’s efforts, calling the reconstruction a “laudable gesture” that reflects the “spirit of cooperation and mutual respect” between the two sister nations.

The reconstruction of the property is a significant step in strengthening the bilateral ties between Ghana and Nigeria, reaffirming their commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes and fostering regional unity.
