Nigerian federal paramilitary workers have expressed frustration over excessive deductions from their salaries and their inability to access payslips on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) portal. The situation has persisted since May 2024, leaving workers in the dark about the details of their earnings and deductions.
Employees under the Ministry of Interior, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOS), claim they can no longer verify their pay details. Workers recall that until February 2024, they could check their basic salary, deductions, and net pay through the IPPIS portal. However, the portal has been inaccessible since May.
During this period, workers reported significant salary deductions, with some level 10 officers receiving as little as ₦25,000 as take-home pay. Despite multiple attempts to contact IPPIS officials, no explanation or resolution has been provided.
Sources disclosed that while some agencies under the Ministry of Interior, like the Federal Fire Service, received rent subsidy arrears during the portal downtime, others, including the NSCDC, NIS, and NCOS, were left unpaid.
Further compounding their grievances, workers promoted in December 2023 have yet to be placed on their new salary scales, and promotion arrears remain unpaid. “It’s been a year since our promotions, but we’ve seen no adjustments to our salaries or allowances,” a worker lamented.
Workers are urging President Bola Tinubu to investigate the issues surrounding IPPIS and ensure prompt payment of promotion arrears. They are also demanding the reactivation of the IPPIS portal to regain access to their payslips and ensure salary transparency.
Reporters previously highlighted similar grievances among personnel in agencies such as the Nigeria Prisons Service and the NIS. Despite funds reportedly being released for payment, these workers have not received their entitlements.
The paramilitary personnel emphasize the urgent need for fairness and uniform treatment across all agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
