The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 113 foreign nationals at the Federal High Court in Abuja over charges linked to cybercrime and immigration violations. The offences include computer-related fraud, marketing scams, money laundering, and unlawful access to data.
In a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter), Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the arrests occurred on November 3, 2024, during a joint operation by the National Cyber Crime Centre and Zone 7 Command in Jahi, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory.
Sophisticated digital tools believed to have been central to the syndicate’s operations were seized during the raid. These include laptops, smartphones, routers, gaming devices, international passports, and high-capacity servers. A Black Toyota Tundra and a Harman/Kardon sound system were also among the items recovered.
The statement described the operation as highlighting the scale and complexity of cross-border cybercrime activities. “The suspects used these devices for unauthorised data breaches, marketing scams, and other illegal activities,” it stated.
Beyond cybercrime, the suspects are charged with immigration offences and alleged links to human trafficking networks. The National Cybercrime Centre, supported by credible evidence, arraigned the suspects on multiple counts, including conspiracy and illegal immigration.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to protect Nigerians. He emphasized collaboration with international law enforcement agencies to tackle transnational crimes.
The arraignment highlights the Nigeria Police Force’s increasing efforts to combat cybercrime and protect the digital space in the country. Further updates on the trial are expected in the coming weeks.
