Six Nigerian Policemen Brutalize Driver Over N100 Bribe in Enugu

The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the Enugu State Police Command to identify and produce six officers who were caught on video assaulting a driver at a checkpoint over a N100 bribe. The incident, which has sparked outrage, was captured by passengers and shared on social media.

In the video posted by a user identified as @spoiltkid on X (formerly Twitter), one of the policemen is seen hitting the driver on the back of the head. The driver, who appeared to be heading back to his vehicle, was further attacked by the same officer, who began kicking him. As the driver questioned the assault, four other policemen joined in, violently brutalizing him while his passengers, reportedly Christian Girls in Training, screamed in protest.

The situation escalated as the officers dragged the driver to their office near the checkpoint. According to reports, he was beaten to the point of unconsciousness.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the incident, describing it as “unacceptable and disgraceful.” He responded to the video by directing the Enugu Police Command to produce the officers involved for disciplinary action.

“This is not acceptable. @Enugu_PoliceNg @PoliceNG_CRU @PoliceNG produce these men immediately for necessary action,” Adejobi said in his statement on X.

Although the exact location of the incident in Enugu has not been independently verified, the video has sparked widespread criticism of police misconduct and abuse of power in Nigeria.

Public outrage has grown over repeated cases of police brutality, with many calling for reforms and stricter oversight of law enforcement officers. As investigations continue, the Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability and justice in this case.
