The Benue State Police have arrested Dr. Ichor Tersagh, a lecturer at the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi (JOSTUM), over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of Mrs. Susan Anyagh, the wife of his colleague, who also serves as the chairman of the university’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The incident occurred last Saturday along Otukpo Road, Makurdi, when Mrs. Anyagh was ambushed by armed kidnappers. The assailants reportedly stole ₦1.3 million from her vehicle, assaulted her, and left her unconscious in a bush path.
In a shocking development, Mrs. Anyagh later identified Dr. Tersagh near the crime scene. She claimed that she had begged him for help, but he ignored her and walked away.
Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, revealed that the victim was on her way from a fuel station in Kanshio when she stopped to assist people who flagged her down. These individuals turned out to be the kidnappers who forced her to drive toward Wurukum. During the ordeal, Dr. Tersagh allegedly called the kidnappers, instructing them to kill Mrs. Anyagh.
The kidnappers, fearing a police checkpoint, abandoned the car, took the stolen money, and viciously attacked Mrs. Anyagh with a car jack, leaving her for dead. Passersby later found her along Yandev-Ugbema Road and rushed her to a local healthcare clinic for urgent treatment.
Following Mrs. Anyagh’s statement, Dr. Tersagh was arrested. The police have launched a full investigation into the case. Her husband, Mr. Paul Anyagh, confirmed the incident and expressed his full cooperation with the authorities. He also promised to share further details as the investigation progresses.
This case has raised significant concern, and authorities are working to uncover the full extent of Dr. Tersagh’s involvement.
