Former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate, Natacha Anita Akide, better known as Tacha, has opened up about her decision to relocate to the United Kingdom. The reality TV star recently moved to the UK, sharing her reasons with British media personality Madame Joyce.
Tacha revealed that she made the move because she felt she had “conquered” the Nigerian market. According to her, she had achieved everything she could in Nigeria and was ready for new opportunities abroad. However, she clarified that her relocation does not mean she will turn her back on the Nigerian market. She stated that if the right offers come her way, she is open to continuing her work with Nigerian brands.
“I relocated to the UK because I have conquered the whole of the Nigerian market. Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean I’m not going to do Nigerian deals. If the offer is good, why not?” she said.
Tacha also addressed the realities of the influencing industry in Nigeria, revealing the financial challenges influencers face. She pointed out that while the influencing scene in Nigeria may seem glamorous, the payment for such work does not match the effort involved. Tacha explained that brands sometimes offer influencers around N6 million (approximately $3,000) for six months of work, including posting two videos a month. She explained that when she left the Big Brother Naija show in 2019, this amount was reasonable. However, she said that now, with rising costs and the need to travel and maintain a certain image, $3,000 no longer stretches as far as it used to.
“The fee was the same when I left the Big Brother Naija show in 2019, but it made sense then. At least, you could book a plane ticket with it. But right now, $3,000 is nothing. N6 million seems good, but when you have to convert it to dollars, travel abroad, and spend money to look good, there’s nothing left,” she said.
Tacha’s decision to relocate has sparked conversations about the challenges of the influencer industry in Nigeria and the growing importance of exploring global markets.
