A fire broke out at a Christ Apostolic Church parish in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday night, forcing worshippers to flee. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM at the church on Olohunda Road in the Lagelu Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses reported that some worshippers had fallen asleep in preparation for the night vigil when the fire started. One witness shared, “Some people had already slept off when the fire began.” Another witness described the scene as desperate, mentioning an elderly woman who could barely walk but was still inside the church as the fire spread.
Emergency responders from the Oyo State Fire Service quickly arrived at the scene after a resident, identified as Kunle Junaid, alerted them. Akinyemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident but stated that the cause of the fire had not been determined at the time of reporting.
The fire service has not yet issued an official statement on the extent of damages or potential casualties. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
