The Nigerian Army dealt a significant blow to the Lakurawa terrorist group in Sokoto State, destroying 22 of their camps during a sweeping offensive under Operation Fansan Yemma. The operation, aimed at eliminating insurgent threats in the region, also resulted in the deaths of several terrorists.
Brigadier General Ibinkule Ajose, the acting General Commanding Officer of the 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, disclosed the details of the operation, highlighting the recovery of arms and ammunition, including four rifles, 409 rounds of PKT 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 94 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The operation targeted key terrorist hideouts across several areas, including Rumji Dutse East of Sarma, Tsauna and Bauni, Malgatawa, Gargao, Tsauna and Magara forest, Kaideji, Nakuru, Sama, Sanyinna, Kadidda, Kolo, and Dancha villages in Illela, Tangaza, and Binji Local Government Areas.
“This deployment consolidates the successes achieved in the ongoing precursor operation under Operation Forest Sanity III (Chase Lakurawas Out),” Brigadier General Ajose stated.
He praised the troops for their commitment and urged them to sustain their offensive until all forms of insurgency are eradicated from the affected areas.
“Nigerians are counting on your ability and professionalism to flush out the Lakurawa and bandits terrorizing our communities,” Ajose added.
This marks another significant milestone in the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and security to Sokoto State and its surrounding regions.
