NSCDC Uncovers Illegal Petrol Storage Facility in Rivers State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has discovered a residential building used for storing illegally refined petroleum products in Rivers State.

The facility, located in the Elelewo community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, contained large storage tanks and cans filled with illegal petroleum products. The discovery was made by the NSCDC’s Anti-Vandal Unit using its newly deployed illegal crude oil theft technology tracker.

Speaking at the site, NSCDC Rivers State Commandant Joachim Okafor described the operation as part of the Corps’ commitment to curbing crude oil theft and its associated impacts on the nation’s economy. He further noted the environmental hazards and health risks caused by such illegal activities.

“This discovery highlights the ongoing efforts to address economic sabotage and protect the environment from the devastating effects of crude oil theft and illegal refining,” Commandant Okafor said.

The NSCDC assured the public of its continued vigilance and urged communities to report suspicious activities to authorities to support the fight against oil theft and environmental degradation.

This operation underscores the Corps’ determination to combat crude oil theft and its consequences on Nigeria’s economy and ecosystem.
