Patience Ozokwor reveals life before fame: “I Used to Dress Corpses

Nollywood veteran Patience Ozokwor, fondly known as “Mama G,” has opened up about the hardships she endured before achieving stardom. Speaking during a pre-premiere dinner for Funke Akindele’s new movie, *Everybody Loves Jenifa*, Ozokwor shared her inspiring journey of perseverance and resilience.

 

Reflecting on her past struggles, the beloved actress revealed she once worked in a morgue, dressing corpses to provide for her family.

 

“I used to go to the morgue to dress dead bodies so my children could go to school and eat,” Ozokwor said. “I did a lot of things to make my family what they are today.”

 

She praised her colleague, Funke Akindele, for her dedication and work ethic, likening her journey to her own.

 

“Funke Akindele is a very strong woman. I love strong women. I see myself in her. She’s a replica of who I am,” Ozokwor remarked.

 

The actress expressed gratitude to her community for their support during her challenging times.

 

“In my own place, they appreciate me a lot because they saw me through all these things,” she noted.

 

Ozokwor, a Nollywood icon, is celebrated for her powerful performances and enduring presence in the Nigerian film industry. Her revelation serves as a testament to her determination and the sacrifices she made to provide a better future for her family.

 

The dinner, hosted to celebrate Akindele’s latest cinematic venture, brought together industry leaders and fans to honor the resilience and creativity of women in Nollywood.
