Accra, Ghana – Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, held a significant meeting with the leadership of the All Nigerian Community (ANC) in Ghana at the Nigerian High Commission in Accra. The meeting aimed to address the concerns of Nigerians residing in Ghana and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Ojukwu emphasized the Nigerian government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its citizens abroad, particularly in West Africa. Addressing the gathering, she noted the importance of fostering unity among the Nigerian diaspora and reassured the community of the government’s support in resolving their challenges.
“Our administration is dedicated to ensuring that Nigerians, irrespective of their location, feel the presence and support of their homeland,” she said during her address. Ojukwu also reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria-Ghana relations through diplomacy and dialogue.
The meeting, attended by several community heads and stakeholders, focused on key issues affecting Nigerians in Ghana. These included immigration challenges, business restrictions, and social integration concerns. Leaders of the ANC voiced their worries over the difficulties faced by Nigerians in establishing businesses and obtaining legal residency in Ghana.
Ambassador Ojukwu assured the community that the Nigerian government is actively working to address these issues through diplomatic channels. She highlighted the importance of strengthening diplomatic relations to create a more conducive environment for Nigerians in Ghana.
This engagement follows Ambassador Ojukwu’s participation in Ghana’s recent presidential inauguration, where she accompanied President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Her presence at the inauguration underscored the commitment of the Nigerian government to maintain strong relations with neighboring countries and to support its citizens living abroad.
The leaders of the Nigerian community expressed their appreciation for the minister’s proactive approach in addressing their concerns. They pledged to collaborate closely with the Nigerian High Commission to improve the welfare of Nigerians living in Ghana.
Dr. Bayo Albert Asaolu, President of the All Nigerian Community in Ghana, thanked Ambassador Ojukwu for her visit, noting that it marked a new chapter in addressing the longstanding concerns of the Nigerian diaspora in the country. “We are encouraged by this visit, and we believe it will lead to positive outcomes for Nigerians living in Ghana,” he said.
The Nigerian High Commission in Ghana also expressed its gratitude to Ambassador Ojukwu for prioritizing the needs of the diaspora. The High Commissioner noted that the government’s renewed engagement will pave the way for stronger ties between the two nations and foster a sense of belonging among Nigerians in Ghana.
The meeting is seen as part of a broader initiative by President Tinubu’s administration to strengthen ties with Nigerian communities across Africa. As the largest diaspora group in Ghana, Nigerians play a significant role in the social and economic fabric of the country.
Ambassador Ojukwu’s visit marks a critical step in addressing the challenges faced by the Nigerian diaspora and demonstrates the government’s commitment to its citizens abroad. The engagement highlights the importance of diplomatic dialogue in resolving cross-border issues and fostering stronger regional cooperation in West Africa.
The Nigerian government continues to assure its citizens that their concerns are being heard, and steps are being taken to address them through consistent diplomatic engagement.
