Sunday Igboho Advocates for Nigeria’s Separation into Ethnic Nations

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has called for the separation of Nigeria’s ethnic nationalities if the country continues to struggle as a unified entity.

In a video obtained by  Reporters, Igboho, speaking from an airport in the United Kingdom, cited corruption, insecurity, and inefficiency as reasons why many Nigerians are no longer proud of their citizenship. He emphasized the lack of security at Nigerian airports, where travelers frequently report theft of their belongings.

“Even inside the airport, there is no security. They can steal your belongings inside your bag. All these are the things dissuading people from being proud of the country, Nigeria,” Igboho said.

He argued that such issues leave Nigerians feeling disheartened about the state of their nation, fueling the demand for separation. Igboho proposed that the Yoruba, Igbo, and other ethnic groups should consider going their separate ways to build prosperous societies tailored to their unique identities and aspirations.

“If Nigeria is not working as a country, it is better we go our separate ways,” he said. “Our (Yoruba) youths will transform Yoruba Nation. Most of them have traveled across the world and learned a lot. If they come back to Yoruba land, the knowledge will help them build it and transform the nation like those in Europe.”

Igboho highlighted the determination of Yoruba youths to create a modern and developed society inspired by European standards. He expressed optimism that their exposure to global best practices could help establish a thriving Yoruba Nation.

The activist, known for his advocacy for Yoruba self-determination, has consistently criticized the Nigerian government over issues of governance and security. His recent comments reignite debates around restructuring or dissolving the nation to address its numerous challenges.

The video has sparked discussions on social media, with reactions ranging from support for Igboho’s stance to calls for national unity and reform.
