The Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken significant disciplinary actions against several judicial officers involved in misconduct. Three officials were dismissed, while three Shari’a Court judges were advised to resign due to abuse of power.
Among those dismissed are two registrars, Iyal Ibrahim and Baffa Alhaji, who were found guilty of illegally selling court exhibits. Also dismissed was Abdu Aujara, a Chief Clerical Officer, who suppressed a litigant’s deposit of N965,000 in a case before the Chief Magistrates Court in Jahun.
In addition to these dismissals, three Shari’a Court judges—Adamu Farin-Dutse, Muhammad Usman, and Usman Zubair—were found guilty of various offenses, including abusing their judicial powers, misapplying the law, and mishandling inheritance cases. As a result, the JSC has advised them to submit their resignation letters within two weeks.
The commission also reprimanded two magistrates, Munnir Abdullahi and Yakubu Ibrahim, for misconduct. Abdullahi was warned for converting a civil matter into a criminal case, while Ibrahim was reprimanded for using derogatory language towards a litigant.
The disciplinary actions followed the 178th meeting of the JSC, held on January 7, 2025. The meeting was convened to review reports from an investigation committee and the Judiciary Public Complaint Committee (JPCC), which highlighted the misconduct of the involved officers.
In its statement, the commission emphasized the importance of maintaining judicial integrity and stated that it would continue to enforce strict measures against those who violate the rules and procedures governing the judiciary.
