FG to Emir Sanusi: We Don’t Need Your Help for Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

The Federal Government has responded to recent remarks by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who expressed his unwillingness to assist the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Speaking at a public event in Lagos, the Emir had indicated his decision to refrain from commenting on solutions to the economic impacts of the administration’s policies.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the Federal Government dismissed the Emir’s position, stating that the administration does not require his endorsement for its “laudable policies.”

The statement emphasized that while Emir Sanusi, like all Nigerians, has the right to express his views, the government found it concerning that a leader of his stature would choose not to contribute constructively due to perceived antagonism.

“It is disheartening that a leader from an institution built on forthrightness and fairness would shy away from speaking the truth due to personal interests or imagined slights,” the statement read.

The minister underscored that Nigeria is at a critical juncture where bold reforms are essential. He highlighted that the administration’s decisions, though difficult, are aimed at ensuring long-term economic stability.

### **Economic Reforms and Their Impact**

The government detailed the progress made under Tinubu’s reforms, noting:

– The unification of exchange rates has boosted investor confidence, increased foreign reserves, and strengthened Nigeria’s resilience to external economic shocks.

– The removal of fuel subsidies has freed resources for investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

– Projections from global institutions, including the World Bank, show a positive economic trajectory for Nigeria.

– A reduced debt service-to-revenue ratio has created a more sustainable fiscal framework.

The statement attributed the current economic pains to decades of mismanagement, emphasizing that the reforms are necessary for a brighter future.

The Federal Government also expressed disappointment in the Emir’s apparent shift in loyalty, urging him to contribute constructively rather than undermine the administration’s efforts.

“Given his background in economics, His Highness has a unique responsibility to support reforms that benefit all Nigerians. Personal grievances should not overshadow the collective good,” the minister added.

The statement called for unity and collaboration among leaders, urging them to prioritize the nation’s progress over divisive rhetoric.

“Rebuilding Nigeria demands focus and sacrifice. This administration remains open to constructive dialogue while steadfastly prioritizing the interests of Nigerians,” it concluded.

The Federal Government affirmed its commitment to leading Nigeria toward economic inclusivity and sustainability, urging all stakeholders to work together for a prosperous future.
