The Nigeria Police Force has taken decisive action by suspending Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia from duty, effective January 9, 2025. This decision, communicated via a wireless message to all departments, units, and commands, comes following directives from the Police Service Commission (POLSCOM) and in accordance with PSR 100406, 2021 as amended.
The suspension, detailed in a communication dated January 10, 2025, with reference AP:41804/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.IV/3, underscores the seriousness of the allegations against AIG Lafia. The officer has been instructed to strictly adhere to the regulations governing suspended police officers pending the outcome of his case by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC).
AIG Lafia, who assumed office as head of the Force Intelligence Bureau at Force Headquarters, Abuja, in February 2023, faces an uncertain future pending the investigation’s conclusion.
The police authorities have further directed the Assistant Inspector General of Police Budget and Payment to immediately halt Lafia’s salary as part of the disciplinary measures instituted. This development marks a significant move within the force to uphold integrity and accountability in its ranks.
As the situation develops, stakeholders await further updates on the progress of the investigation and any subsequent actions by the Police Service Commission.
