The incoming administration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly set to begin a large-scale immigration operation in Chicago on Tuesday, a day after Trump assumes office. The Wall Street Journal, citing four anonymous sources, revealed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will deploy between 100 and 200 officers to carry out the operation.

The planned raid is expected to last throughout the week, targeting undocumented immigrants as part of Trump’s renewed focus on stricter immigration enforcement.

While Trump’s transition team has yet to comment on the reports, sources close to the administration indicated that the operations would not be exclusive to Chicago. “We will be conducting operations across the country,” a source told *The Guardian*. Major cities like New York and Miami are also expected to see increased immigration enforcement activities.

Tom Homan, Trump’s designated border czar, reportedly emphasized Chicago’s significance during a recent event in the city. “If the mayor of Chicago doesn’t want to help, he can step aside,” Homan said, warning that obstruction or sheltering undocumented immigrants could lead to prosecution.

Trump’s hardline stance on immigration has been a central theme since his 2024 campaign, during which he promised sweeping measures against illegal immigration. In January 2024, Trump declared, “Right after my inauguration, we will launch the largest domestic deportation operation in American history.”

The new administration reportedly plans to mobilize various federal agencies to bolster deportation efforts. This includes pressuring so-called “sanctuary cities,” like Chicago, which limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.

This move echoes Trump’s earlier presidency, during which he prioritized using federal resources to detain and deport undocumented immigrants. Critics argue the new policies will further divide communities and instill fear among immigrant populations.

Beyond the reported raids, immigration experts have highlighted potential challenges for notable individuals, such as Prince Harry. Reports suggest Trump’s administration may scrutinize the Duke of Sussex’s immigration status, following his controversial legal battle to keep his documents sealed.

Beverly Hills attorney Alphonse Provinziano has warned that Prince Harry may face an uphill battle to maintain his residency under Trump’s presidency. “The new administration could pose significant challenges,” Provinziano noted, suggesting Harry may be required to publicly defend his immigration status.

The reports of mass deportation plans have already sparked concerns among immigrant communities and advocacy groups. Critics argue that targeting specific cities and increasing deportation efforts could disrupt families and harm local economies.

As Trump prepares to take office, his administration’s approach to immigration is set to face intense scrutiny both domestically and internationally.
