Comrade Jubril Batuta, a National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) presidential candidate from the University of Abuja, has accused Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, of convening a secret meeting to influence the NANS leadership election.
In a statement made available on Tuesday, Batuta alleged that Seyi Tinubu orchestrated the meeting to ensure the election of a Yoruba candidate from Oyo State, contrary to NANS’ constitutional zoning principles.
Batuta expressed disappointment, stating, “This meeting is a calculated attempt to impose leadership for ethnic and political gains.” He called on President Tinubu to restrain his son from interfering in NANS affairs, emphasizing the need for inclusiveness in leadership.
The student leader warned that any subversion of the leadership transition process could spark nationwide resistance, declaring, “NANS belongs to all Nigerian students, regardless of tribe, religion, or region.”
Batuta urged students and civil society to resist nepotism and protect the association’s independence, vowing to mobilize if necessary.
