The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested 90 foreign nationals accused of cybercrimes and defrauding Nigerians. The arrests followed a coordinated operation with other security agencies, acting on credible intelligence that uncovered the suspects’ hideout.
The Rivers State Comptroller of Immigration, Mr. YI Abdulmajeed, confirmed the operation’s success. Among the 94 individuals arrested, 90 were foreign nationals, with 85 hailing from Cameroon, five from Chad, and four identified as Nigerians. The group included 74 males and 20 females.
Investigations revealed that all 90 foreigners had entered Nigeria illegally through unauthorized border crossings. They also failed to provide valid travel documents or residence permits when questioned.
Two Nigerian nationals, both from Rivers State, were also apprehended for allegedly harboring the suspects.
In response to the arrests, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, has ordered the immediate deportation of the foreign nationals to their countries of origin.
The operation highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to combat cybercrime and secure the nation’s borders. It also underscores the importance of cross-agency collaboration in addressing illegal immigration and related crimes.
