Mercy Chinwo Speaks Out on Her Painful Ordeal with Former Manager, Eezeetee

Minister Mercy Chinwo, the renowned gospel artist, has broken her silence on her tumultuous relationship with her former manager, Ezekiel ThankGod, also known as Eezeetee. In a detailed statement issued by her legal representatives, Minister Mercy shared a heartbreaking account of the challenges she faced during her years working with Eezeetee, shedding light on the manipulative and abusive tactics that plagued their professional relationship.

In the statement, her legal team clarified that the ongoing media buzz surrounding her relationship with Eezeetee, particularly claims of a lawsuit related to her music catalogue, is based on misinformation. The press release emphasized that Minister Mercy did not initiate any court proceedings against her former manager and had never complained about the revenue split from her digital streaming platforms.

The relationship between Minister Mercy and Eezeetee began in Port Harcourt, where she was initially a backup singer under his mentorship. Their bond grew stronger over time, with Eezeetee taking on a paternal role, offering advice and guidance. The two formalized their working relationship in 2017, when they signed a management contract on Minister Mercy’s birthday. The relationship seemed to flourish, with several successful projects, including her hit song “Excess Love.”

However, things took a negative turn in 2019, marking the third year of their professional collaboration. Minister Mercy revealed that Eezeetee began pressuring her to extend her five-year contract into a twelve-year agreement, which she refused. The situation worsened, with Eezeetee displaying increasing hostility and making threatening statements, such as “I will destroy your career.” This verbal abuse, coupled with intimidation and isolation tactics, led Minister Mercy to demand a copy of the contract, which she did not receive until November 2022, after the expiration of the original agreement.

The abuse did not end there. Minister Mercy recounted numerous instances where Eezeetee made false statements about her health to prevent her from attending events, including an incident in 2021 where Eezeetee falsely claimed she had a terminal illness, causing confusion and chaos among event organizers. Despite these challenges, Minister Mercy made several attempts at reconciliation, even gifting Eezeetee a new SUV in hopes of restoring their relationship. However, these efforts were met with more manipulation.

The situation took a darker turn when Minister Mercy discovered that her original 2017 contract had been tampered with. Eezeetee had replaced it with a modified version, altering dates and terms in a way that seemed designed to undermine her career and financial interests. Investigations revealed that the 2019 contract had been forged, and Eezeetee had used it to replace the original agreement without Minister Mercy’s consent.

In addition to the contract issues, Minister Mercy also revealed that Eezeetee had been withholding significant revenue from her digital platforms, falsifying documents, and claiming rights to her music without remitting her due share. Despite these financial discrepancies, Minister Mercy had never raised a complaint about the 50/50 revenue split but was troubled by the withholding of her earnings.

The situation reached a breaking point when Minister Mercy sought the intervention of an independent auditor, only for Eezeetee to withdraw from the audit process, further complicating matters. A subsequent investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2024 revealed that Eezeetee had unlawfully diverted over $270,000 in revenue from digital platforms. Though Eezeetee initially denied any ill intent, the funds were later recovered.

In an emotional turn of events, during an EFCC investigation, Eezeetee admitted to tampering with the contract and apologized, expressing regret for his actions. Both parties engaged in a moment of reconciliation, with Minister Mercy offering forgiveness. However, despite this emotional resolution, the case took a legal turn when Eezeetee filed a lawsuit against Minister Mercy, a move that contradicted his earlier pleas for peace.

As of now, Minister Mercy continues to believe that the situation can be resolved, and she hopes that the public will learn the truth behind the two contracts and the fraudulent actions of her former manager. She expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support of her fans and affirmed that her faith has helped her navigate these challenges.

Minister Mercy’s legal team has vowed to continue pursuing justice and transparency in this matter, while also reiterating that their client remains focused on her music and ministry.
