Nollywood actress Omowunmi Dada has opened up about a frightening experience during a movie shoot in Oyo State, where she contracted sepsis. The actress shared her health struggle in response to her colleague, Jemima Osunde’s recent revelation of her own health challenges after consuming contaminated food on a movie set in Ibadan.
Dada recounted how, during the production in Oyo, she fell seriously ill and was abandoned in a hotel. Her family and management were forced to rush her to a hospital in Ibadan after she lost consciousness.
In a post on X, Dada explained, “My dear… I got sepsis on a project in Oyo, they literally left me in the hotel. Thank God my family and management got a car to take me to a hospital in Ibadan. I got there unconscious. It was sepsis, and I was lucky to be alive.”
What added to the distress, Dada revealed, was that despite her critical condition, the production company requested a full refund for the project.
“Funny thing, production asked for a full refund. Hmm…” she added.
Osunde responded with support, expressing her relief that Dada had survived the ordeal, saying, “OMG! Sepsis? Thank God for your life, sis! Thank God!”
Osunde also shared her own experience, noting that after falling ill from food contamination, she managed to get herself to a hospital in Lagos and paid for her treatment out of her own pocket. She also spoke out about the production company requesting a refund, despite her health crisis.
“They were sending me messages about a refund. By the time my team sent a response with all the clauses they had breached in the contract, they went quiet. Talking about a refund when you haven’t even asked if I’ve recovered,” Osunde wrote.
Both actresses’ stories highlight the struggles and challenges faced by those working in Nigeria’s movie industry, where safety and well-being sometimes take a backseat to production demands.
