President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently leading the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja. This marks the second consecutive session of the council, following the first meeting of the year, which was held on Monday.
The meeting commenced at exactly 1:26 p.m. upon Tinubu’s arrival at the Council Chamber. According to Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the back-to-back meetings are necessary to address a backlog of memoranda that have accumulated since December 2024.
“Let me also say that there is another Federal Executive Council meeting coming up tomorrow,” Idris told journalists. “Since December, we’ve not had any, so a lot of memos have gathered, and the President is determined to dispense with all of them.”
The Minister added that a press briefing would be held after Wednesday’s session to update the public on key decisions reached by the council.
Key Government Officials in Attendance
In attendance at the meeting are:
– Vice President Kashim Shettima
– Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume
– Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila
– Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack
– Several ministers and ministers of state
During Monday’s FEC session, the government approved a sum of N4.8 billion for the Presidential Treatment Programme, which will provide 150,000 HIV treatment packs between February and May 2025.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, disclosed that the decision was made in response to concerns over recent U.S. policy changes affecting Nigeria’s health sector, particularly in funding for HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria programmes.
The two-day FEC meeting is expected to address several pressing national issues, with more updates to follow.
