Nollywood Mourns as Actress Pat Ugwu Passes Away at 35

 

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden passing of actress Pat Ugwu at the age of 35. The heartbeaking news was shared by veteran actor Emeka Okoye onn social media, leaving fans and colleagues in shock.

Details surrounding Ugwu’s death remain unclear at this time, as no official statement has been released regarding the cause. However, her passing has sent waves of grief across Nollywood, with many expressing their condolences and disbelief online.

Emeka Okoye, who announced the actress’s death via his Instagram page, expressed regret that they never had the chance to work together. He wrote:

 

Rest in peace, sis. Pat Ugwu. @patpat_ugwu so we no get to work again? Death whyooo? God please 😭😭😭. May your soul rest in the bosom of the Lord. God, please protect all my colleagues. This unusual death is frightening.

 

Other Nollywood figures, including Destiny Etiko, Nkechi Blessing, and Rita Edochie, so took to social media to mourn Ugwu’s passing, with many questioning the cause of her untimely death.

According to her obituary, Pat Ugwu’s funeral will take place on February 6 and 7, 2025. Her family has not yet released an official statement, but tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, fans, and well-wishers.

Pat Ugwu’s death adds to the growing list of Nollywood stars who have passed away in recent years. In 2024, veteran actor Emmanuel France died, leaving fans reminiscing about his iconic movie roles. More recently, Ayobami Olabiyi, popularly known as Bobo B also passed away after battling an illness.

The Nigerian entertainment industry continues to grapple with the loss of talented actors, with many calling for increased attention to the health and well-being of industry members.

As the film industry mourns yet another tragic loss, fans and colleagues will forever remember Pat Ugwu for her contributions to Nollywood.
